OASIS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

The Bowling group was started approximately 25 years ago for people over 55 who wanted to bowl and socialise, a place to bowl without the pressures of joining a Bowling League. The age has been lowered and membership is open anyone with an interest in looking to take up bowling as a social event. New starters will be made very welcome and tuition is available for novice and players who need advice on their playing techniques.
A special needs /disabled group that used Oasis were supported by the bowlers by encouraging them to try bowling, this turned out to very successful until the special needs group moved to a different area.
Many of the membership also bowl as members of other social clubs, while others also play as members of a league club.
The group meets on a Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 0900 to 1100.

Why We Play Bowls at the Oasis Centre
“I started playing Crown Green Bowls a couple of years ago. Then one day last year I went to Whitby Park where I got talking to some bowlers there and was invited to play with them, which I did and quite enjoyed it. They then invited me to go to the Oasis Club to play indoor bowls. I didn’t even know the place existed. Anyway one day I plucked up the courage to go and was made very welcome. I now go there every week and thoroughly enjoy. There are a nice crowd of people that go there and everyone is made welcome. I’m so glad I went to the park that day and got talking to the lads playing bowls as I now play indoor and outdoor bowls and I can honestly say bowls have changed my life for the better. I love going to the Oasis Club and hope to continue doing so for a long time”.
